Starlink Plans Explained: Residential vs. Roam vs. Business

By Torren Davis, owner, Reliable Orbit InstallationsPublished Updated 3 min read
The short answer

Starlink sells three kinds of plans: Residential for a fixed address, Roam for travel and portable use, and Business Priority for commercial sites. As of October 2026, Residential starts at $55 a month with unlimited data, Roam starts at $55 a month for portable use, and Business Local Priority starts at $55 a month for 50 GB of priority data. Residential prices can also run higher or lower by address now, under Starlink's dynamic pricing. Pick Residential if the dish stays put, Roam if it moves around, and Business Priority if you need priority data and an uptime guarantee.

Starlink keeps shuffling its plan names and prices, so here is the plain version as of October 2026. Three plan families: one for home, one for travel, one for business.

What is the quick answer?

If the dish lives at your house, you want Residential. If it rides in the RV or splits time between home and the lake, you want Roam. If it feeds a business, look at Business Priority. One heads-up: Starlink raised most consumer prices by $5 to $10 a month in mid-2026, so older articles you find online may still show the old numbers. Everything below is current as of October 2026.

Which plan fits a house?

Residential. It is tied to one service address and comes in three tiers:

Tier Price Good to know
Residential 100 Mbps $55/mo Unlimited data, deprioritized during congestion
Residential 200 Mbps $85/mo Unlimited data
Residential Max $130/mo Unlimited data, highest network priority

"Deprioritized" just means that when the network is crowded, the 100 Mbps tier slows down first. Max is the tier that holds full speed longest. All three are unlimited, so there's no data cap to watch. Starlink also offers a 30-day trial; check the terms at checkout.

What if I take the dish to the lake or use it in an RV?

That is what Roam is for. It is not tied to one address:

Tier Price Data
Roam 100GB $55/mo 100GB high-speed, then unlimited low-speed
Roam 300GB $80/mo 300GB high-speed, then unlimited low-speed
Roam Unlimited $175/mo No cap

When you use up the high-speed data on the two lower tiers, the connection keeps working at much slower speeds. That's fine for messages and maps, not for streaming a movie.

If you only need Roam part of the year, there's Standby Mode, starting at $10 a month. It keeps the account active at very low speed instead of paying full price while the dish sits in the shop.

When does a Business plan make sense?

On starlink.com, the business plans are called Priority plans. For land-based sites, Local Priority starts at $55 a month for 50 GB of priority data, with larger plans of 500 GB, 1 TB and 2 TB, as of September 2026. Priority data goes first when the network is busy. You can add data in 50 GB or 500 GB blocks, and plans include 24/7 priority support, a public IPv4 address, a 99.9% uptime commitment, and month-to-month billing.

Businesses often pair Priority with the Performance kit, which has a wider field of view and tougher weather rating than the Standard.

The reason to look at Priority instead of running a home plan at the shop: the SLA and prioritized support. If the internet going down costs you money, that is what you are paying for.

Did prices just go up?

Yes. In mid-2026 Starlink raised most US Residential and Roam plans by $5 to $10 a month, and Standby went from $5 to $10. Roam 300 GB stayed at $80. Every price in this article is the post-increase number. Starlink changes prices often, so the order page for your address has the final figure.

Since this article was first written, Residential pricing has changed again. In late October 2026 Starlink began moving Residential plans in select areas to dynamic pricing: the monthly price now follows local network capacity and demand, is reviewed roughly every quarter, and can run about 10 or 20 percent above or below the list prices in the table above. The first changes reach bills starting on or after November 30, 2026, and the price can go down as capacity grows, not only up. The list prices are still the starting point, but the price for your address is the one that counts, so check it on starlink.com before you order. What we do

We mount the dish where it will work best, on the roof, a pole, an eave or the ground, and route the cable cleanly into the building. You pick the plan at checkout with Starlink, but the rule of thumb is simple: dish stays home, Residential; dish moves, Roam; business that cannot afford downtime, Priority.

Common questions

Is the data really unlimited on Residential?
Yes. All three Residential tiers have unlimited data. The difference between tiers is speed and network priority, not a data cap.
What happens when I use up my high-speed data on Roam?
On Roam 100GB and Roam 300GB, you stay connected at much slower speeds until the next billing cycle. Roam Unlimited has no cap.
What is Standby Mode?
It's Starlink's low-cost pause option, starting at $10 a month as of the June 2026 price change. It keeps your account and dish active at very low speed so you can switch back to a full plan when you need it.
What does "deprioritized" mean?
When the network is congested, deprioritized traffic slows down first. On Residential, the 100 Mbps tier is deprioritized; Residential Max has the highest priority.
What is an SLA?
A service level agreement. For Priority plans, Starlink commits to 99.9% uptime per billing period and credits part of the bill if it misses. Home plans don't include one.
